We tend to move through the world primarily from a place of fear or
faith. Sometimes, we move back and forth so quickly between these modalities
that it’s unclear which modality we are in. A beloved poem, Come to the
Edge, gets to the essence of fear and faith. It was written by Christopher Logue,
originally composed for a poster advertising a Guillaume
Apollinaire exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art in 1961 or
1962. thus, the poem is often misattributed to Apollinaire.
Come to the Edge
by Christopher Logue
Come to the edge.
We might fall.
Come to the edge.
It's too high!
Come to the edge.
And they came,
and we pushed,
And they flew.
